*sigh* Alright, I sometimes don't understand people here on DA. I'm just a little frustrated with how things always seem to work. I know that most all of my watchers watch me for my Kigo art, I get so many wonderfull comments and it always fav'd, and I appreciate it SO much. You don't understand how much I do! I love it that people love my work...yet it seems to be ONLY for the Kigo. I draw other stuff too! I draw horses, dragons, original characters, so on and so on. My most popular deviation is my Bahamut pic. It's fanart from final fantasy! That's why!

It's always FANART that gets the most attention. It's never the original pieces of work that never get the attention they deserve, and it's not only me that has this problem. Ugh, for example, my two recent deviations, Blue Fox and Ifrit. I've seen how many people have looked at it and yet so little have actually left a comment. I would really appreciate a "nice job" or "nice coloring" I worked really hard on coloring those and here on DA the whole consensus seems to be "eh, whatever" I get more praise on KP/Haven than I do here. I post 'em here because I think that someone will appreciate the work I've done, but again, I don't think that's the case. I plan on continuing to color the mecha's that Festum creates until they are all done, but I don't think that I will be posting them here or any other original work for the sake of going through more disappointment on my end.

Whatever, whatever.

Hm, yes, guilty, I've :+fav:ed some of your works in the past, and left only a very few comments.

So, for the record, you've done a lot of wonderful pics, not only the fanart, but your own creations, too. However, I'm just a poor KP (+KIGO) & ATLA fan, so I honestly only interested on your fanart.

But I've added you on my watching list, and I'm truly try to add an comment on any pic I've :+fav: from you in the next future...

So hopefully this will cheer you up a little bit more. Wish you a nice Sunday...

Greetings from Switzerland...

I had the same problem when I did Teen Titans art. My new original stuff still doesn't receive as much attention, but a lot of the comments on the fanart was from people more interested in the subject then the person drawing it.

Don't worry, you're an excellent artist, and you'll break through it.

Yeah, that's pretty much the jist of how things are on DA. People love fanart to an insane degree yet when it comes to the original works it's a lot harder to attract attention(lest you pepper it with fanart or something of that nature).

I didn't realize they weren't fanart.

Closing my mind to the close-minded.
Nature of the beast, to be honest. I'm more-or-less the same way, though I try not to be.

I know it's no consolation, but the reasoning behind it is pretty simple. When it comes to fanart, there is already a pre-existing interest and sometimes emotional investment in the characters or show present in the community. As a result, works relating to that fandom get the most attention and praise.

When something original is posted, it won't get the same level of attention simply because it's an unknown subject. It isn't that the original work isn't just as good or better than the fanart, it's just that there's no prior interest or emotional attachment to the characters featured in it.

Anywho... *rubs neck* ...looking forward to that Yoruichi/Soi Fon - heh, fanart - piece... ^^;

I have looked at all of your art and I know I need to comment more on the original art you do.
You are a talented artist and even though I like Kigo art, I promise to be more balanced in commenting in the future.

Forgive me?

You want evil? I'll SHOW you evil!
You never told me what you want for the art trade, and if you did I blame SG for me forgetting.

Yeah, it's pretty much as ~Xgamerkf said.

You see, I came here specifically looking for KP. I liked the show and my fav's are all KP.

I think that's fairly typical. You have fans of some show who are actively searching for pictures from their fandom and anything else largely doesn't even register.

It isn't a comment on the quality of the art. Lots of artists do fantastic art I've no interest in. It isn't that I intend to slight their original work, it's just that I'm so busy with my particular little hobby it doesn't even register.

I'll hit a page that might have KP on it, scan for red hair and move on to the next.

I've scanned past thousands of pictures, any of which were just as well done as the KP pics I was looking for, they just weren't what I was after.

There are people out there who are interested in peoples art for arts sake, they're just vastly outnumbered by people (like myself) looking for fan art of their favorite shows.

Don't take it personally that we don't pay more attention to your original art. Most of us don't know anything about art any way. We're just fans of some cartoon.

Do what you want to do for it's own sake, just because you wanted to do it. If someone else likes it - well cool.

When I was a creative writing minor in college, I wrote stories that I liked. I frankly didn't care whether anyone else liked them or not. I wrote them for me. When someone else did like them ... well ... that was cool.
